This study was undertaken to verify major issues present in the discourse of cattle farmers when discussing the use of artificial insemination (AI). Seventy-one beef and dairy cattle farmers in the state of Goiás, Brazil, were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaires during AI training courses in 2010 and 2011. Data analyses were done using the classic method of textual speech content analysis, performing the pre-analytical, analytical and inferential stages. The written questions were separated in elementary context units (ECU) and sorted into similar thematic groups. The aim of the present study was to analyze the interrelationships among the variables and also estimate the genetic correlations between tenderness (WBSF), growth (ILW, FLW and ADG) and carcass (BF, RF and LMA) features. Other purpose was to identify individuals who were more likely to be carriers of favorable genes for tenderness. Growth, carcass and tenderness data from 415 Polled Nellore animals was analyzed. Factor analysis and canonical correlations were used to analyze the phenotypic relationships. The covariance components and genetic parameters were estimated using Gibbs Sampling method. Objetivou-se estimar as (co) variâncias, parâmetros e tendências genéticas para as características dias para ganhar 160 kg (D160) na fase pré-desmama, e dias para ganhar 240 kg (D240) na fase pós-desmama, em bovinos da raça Nelore, criados na região Norte do Brasil. Foram analisados registros de animais criados a pasto na região Norte do Brasil, cedidos pela Associação Brasileira de Criadores de Zebu - ABCZ, e coletados durante os anos de 1997 a 2007. Utilizou-se como efeito fixo os grupos de contemporâneos (rebanho, ano, estação de nascimento e sexo) e idade da vaca ao parto, como covariável.
